After retiring from touring last year, blues guitar legend Buddy Guy is set to return to the stage for a special performance honouring the late Jimi Hendrix.
On 12 April 2025, Guy will take stage at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta for the final date of the 2025 Experience Hendrix Tour, the all-star musical event celebrating the life, legacy and career of the legendary guitarist.
At 88 years old, Guy – who Jimi himself has credited as a major influence – joins a star-studded lineup of guitar virtuosos, including Zakk Wylde, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Eric Johnson, Samantha Fish, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, and Marcus King.
The bond between the two is immortalised in a rare 1968 footage, where Guy and Hendrix share the stage in an impromptu jam at a small club.
Reflecting on his upcoming performance and his friendship with Hendrix, Guy says, “Thank you to the Hendrix Tour family for bringing me back to perform at The Fox Theatre in Atlanta on April 12. I’ll never forget meeting Jimi at that club in New York in 1968, and I’m so grateful we had the chance to become friends. It’s an honor to help keep his legacy alive.”
Jimi Hendrix’s sister Janie Hendrix, who oversees his legacy and estate, adds: “Having Buddy come out of retirement to play with us in the Atlanta show is an amazing finale. It’s a true act of friendship and mutual admiration. I can’t think of a better way to close out such an epic event.”
The 2025 edition of the Experience Hendrix Tour will kick off next month with a 27-date tour throughout the US midwest and east coast starting in Cincinnati, Ohio on 11 March and wrapping up in Atlanta, GA, on 12 April.
In related news, the encore leg of Buddy Guy’s Damn Right Farewell trek will begin on 6 June in Niagara Falls, New York, and run through 28 June, with a final stop in Joliet, Illinois.
