No I’m not kidding. This Black Friday and Cyber Monday has been crazy for massive Gibson discounts – from Epiphone-priced Les Pauls to six grand reductions on Custom Shop stunners. But this one might actually be the best of the lot.
Gibson’s J-45 Studio Walnut is designed to be the most stripped down and simple version of its iconic slope-shouldered design, but put this guitar side by side with a natural-finished non-Studio model and honestly there’s not a lot in it.
Okay, you don’t get the classic rosewood bridge and fingerboard, nor do you get the mohagany back and sides – it’s all walnut here (hence the name). What’s more, the nitrocellulose finish is satin as opposed to the gloss brilliance of a standard J-45, and the LR Baggs onboard pickup is the Element Bronze not the pricier VTC but… that’s about it?
Otherwise, it’s a nitro-finished, Sitka Spruce-topped, Bozeman, Montana-build Gibson J-45 like any other – and it costs under £1,500 this Cyber Monday. That’s crazy! For reference, if you wanted to get one of the Chinese-made Epiphone Inspired By Gibson J-45s they released earlier this year, that is gonna set you back around £1,200 at time of writing.
So that means that for another £300 – the price of a half-decent acoustic pedal basically – you can get a bona fide Gibson acoustic that will age and change with you and be your gigging or writing companion for years to come. It’s one of the absolute best deals this Cyber Monday, and you should jump on it before Thomann change their mind.
